All-Star Classic Set For Wednesday At LFO

The last of the Sportsman’s Warehouse Tennessee-Georgia All-Star Classics will take place on Wednesday, June 18 as the Softball Classic, the oldest of the Tennessee-Georgia Classics, will be contested at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School.

The first game of the traditional doubleheader will take place at 6 p.m.

Now in its 11th year, the Softball Classic matches up the top recent graduates from Southeast Tennessee and against their counterparts from Northwest Georgia.

The Volunteer State has dominated the series, winning 16 of the 20 previous games, but the Peach State is currently enjoying a three-game winning streak.

Georgia claimed its first-ever win over Tennessee in 2003, splitting the twin-bill. Georgia took a Game 2 win in 2006 and swept Tennessee for the first time last season, 4-3 and 6-0.

Hands Across Heritage This Saturday!

The first event for Heritage High School is this Saturday!

Participants should arrive at Heritage MIDDLE between 9:00 and 10:00 am. Participants will register in the cafeteria at Heritage Middle, pick up their T-shirts, learn their group assignment, and then make their way to the staging area at HMS or at HHS.

The line will begin forming at 10:00 am to join hands and unite the campus.

After we have joined the campuses, tours of HHS will begin followed by lunch in the academic courtyard.

Participation is $100 for the first family member, $50 for the second, and $25 for each additional family member. Checks should be made out to “Catoosa County BOE” (note: Hands Across Heritage) or to “Heritage High.” All money raised goes to support band and athletics at HHS.

If you haven’t registered, we still have some t-shirts and space available. Please come Saturday morning, June 14th!

East Beats West In Futures Classic

The West scored three quick runs Tuesday night in the Sportsman’s Warehouse Northwest Georgia Futures Baseball All-Star Game at Dalton High School.But the East wasn’t worried.

Coach Bart Rich’s squad still hadn’t unleashed pitcher Cody Jones and the middle of its power lineup.

Jones, the right-hander from Northwest Whitfield, helped silence the West’s bats with three innings of one-hit relief, Dalton’s Garren Palmer and Northwest’s Brent Stephens and Jordan Darnell slugged home runs and the East won, 10-3.

Trailing by three runs when he relieved starter Colton Kinnamon of Dalton, Jones stopped the West and when he departed after the fifth inning the East had built a 9-3 lead.

Jones was selected the game’s most valuable player. “I threw pretty good,” Jones said. “I was hitting my spots and had my slider working.”

The East, with players from Southeast, Dalton, Northwest, Calhoun and Christian Heritage, needed little time to overtake the West. The comeback was powered by home runs by Northwest’s Brent Stephens and Jordan Darnell and Dalton’s Garren Palmer.

Darnell’s two-run blast in the second cut the West lead to 3-2. Palmer, who reached on an error, scored ahead of Darnell’s homer.

Sportsman’s Warehouse All-star Football Classic

Team Tennessee showed no mercy in dealing Georgia a 41-0 defeat on Saturday in the Sportsman’s Warehouse All-star Football Classic at Finley Stadium.Tennessee was relentless as the orange-and-white clad graduated seniors from 12 Southeast Tennessee counties scored on all five first-half possessions.The Tennessee stars out gained Georgia 296-70 in total yards in the first half.

Sequatchie County linebacker Logan Farley summed up the difference in the two teams on the sidelines after he had recovered a first-quarter fumble to set up a Tennessee touchdown.

“We have a lot of big fast players,” he said. “ Georgia seems slower than the players we’ve been going against all week in practice. We have a lot of fast backs and receivers.”

The first shutout in the Tennessee/Georgia all-star series didn’t end until the clock was allowed to run out following a bench-clearing melee with a little more than a minute left in the fifth contest in the all-star series.

Tennessee Head Coach Tim Daniels of Red Bank said the pushing and shoving began after his former receiver Tim Benford was speared in the back.

Summer League Exhibition Dalton

Some of the top local summer league baseball players in the northwest Georgia area will get to showcase their talents on Tuesday, June 10 in an exhibition game at Dalton High School.

First-pitch for the nine-inning game will be at 6 p.m.

The game, which has the approval of the Georgia High School Association, will match up players from Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade and Walker Counties against those from Gordon, Murray and Whitfield Counties.

The following players have been invited to participate. More may be added prior to the game.

All-Star Basketball Classic Rosters

The Sixth Annual Tennessee-Georgia All-Star Basketball Classic, sponsored by the Sportsman’s Warehouse, will be held on Tuesday, June 10 at Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga.

The Girls’ Classic will begin at 6 p.m. with the Boys’ Classic to follow. There will also be a 3-point shootout for the girls and a slam-dunk contest for the boys.

The All-Star Classic began in 2003.

Over the years, the games have become showcases for local players that have gone on to play with major college programs.

Girls’ Classic alumni have included Wake Forest’s Christen Brown (Dalton) and Chattanooga’s LeCondra Mason (Chattanooga Christian) while Dayton’s Charles Davis (Cleveland) and Old Dominion’s Jonathan Adams (Baylor) are among those who have played in the Boys’ Classic.

Sportman’s Warehouse All-Star Classic

Mark your calendars now for the annual 2008 Tennessee-Georgia All-Star Series, sponsored by the Sportsman’s Warehouse and presented by Stump On Sports.

The All-Star series will match up graduates of the Class of 2008 in a dozen counties each in Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia.

More than 300 athletes were invited to participate in the series last June and even more will be invited this year.

The series will begin on Saturday, June 7 at 7:30 p.m. with the Sportsman’s Warehouse Football Classic presented by Adams USA at Chattanooga’s Finley Stadium.

This will be the fifth Football Classic and the third held at Finley Stadium. The series was evened at 2-2 after a last-minute touchdown gave Team Georgia a 14-13 win last June.

The series shifts to AT&T Field, the home of the Chattanooga Lookouts, on Monday, June 9 for the Sportsman’s Warehouse Senior Baseball Classic. First pitch of the nine-inning game is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Tennessee has dominated the baseball series, winning all six previous meetings, including a 17-12 slugfest at AT&T Field last year.

Daggett Headed To Tennessee Wesleyan

Gordon Lee’s senior baseball signing class increased to three on Friday when second baseman Brandon Daggett signed scholarship papers with Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens.

Daggett emerged as a solid all-around player this season for the Trojans.

He batted .310 and drove in 25 runs while scoring 18 more. He had three doubles and went a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen bases attempts while playing excellent defense at second base.

Daggett joins Zack DeBord (Chattanooga State) and Taylor Eberhardt (Shorter) as Gordon Lee baseball signees.

Generals 1st Spring Navy & Red Game

The first Heritage spring football scrimmage will be remembered for a festive array of many colors. With the uniforms purchased by Heritage burning up in a fire at an athletic manufacture, Coach Tim James scrambled to borrow uniforms from every source imaginable.

Heritage Principal Ronnie Bradford said it would have been nice to see his team in their “school colors” but this too will be a part of the school’s history in the Generals first-year in Catoosa County .

Bradford said everyone in the community is anticipating the day Coach James and his team steps out on the field for their season opening. That will take place on Aug. 29 against Sonoraville at the new Heritage High School .
